Peter, Mollie and Chinky's next journey took them to the strangest place they had ever seen: Giant Land. Everything there was on a colossal scale. The gates were as tall as trees. The chairs were the size of houses. Even a single loaf of bread was bigger than the wishing-chair itself. The giant who ruled the land was every bit as huge. His voice rolled like thunder, and when he laughed, dishes rattled on the shelves. Fighting him was out of the question. Chinky knew that the only way to survive Giant Land was to outwit its owner rather than face him directly. He rolled Peter up in an old sack and told him to lie perfectly still, pretending to be a bag of turnips. Mollie hid behind a colossal loaf. Chinky himself was so small that he simply slipped between the flagstones on the floor. The giant tramped past, muttering to himself and never noticing the three intruders. As soon as his footsteps faded, Peter and Mollie made a dash for the door. Chinky was already at the wishing-chair, tugging it into position. The giant heard them at the last moment and began to roar. But the chair rose up into the sky, and the great creature's fingers brushed nothing but empty air. It was a very narrow escape, and all three of them collapsed on the playroom rug afterwards, weak with relief and laughter.
