With Brightbill at her side and hope rekindled, Roz turns her mind to a single goal: escape. But leaving Hilltop Farm will not be easy. Roz was sent here to work, and she is watched, expected, and depended upon. A robot cannot simply walk out of the gate. If she is to return to the island, she will need a plan.
And so Roz begins to plot. Quietly and carefully, she forms a strategy — working out the route, the timing, and the dangers ahead. Her preparations must stay covert. The farmers must not suspect, and above all the company that owns her must not find out, or they will stop her before she even begins. By day, Roz is the same dependable worker she has always been. By night, she and Brightbill plan their breakout in secret.
This part of the story shows a new side of Roz. She has always been gentle, patient, and obedient. Now she is determined, clever, and quietly defiant. She uses all her ingenuity, even learning to repurpose ordinary farm objects to help her. It is risky — perhaps the most dangerous thing she has ever attempted. But Roz has made her choice. She would rather risk everything for a chance at freedom than spend the rest of her days safe, useful, and far from home.
